In Memoriam: Father Robert (Bob) Crawford

The Catholic Military Ordinariate of Australia joins in mourning the passing of Father Robert (Bob) Crawford, who entered into eternal rest on Sunday. Born in Hay, South Australia, in 1939, Fr Bob’s life was defined by over 55 years of unwavering ministry, including a significant period of service to the men and women of the Australian Defence Force.

Ordained for the Archdiocese of Adelaide in 1969, Fr Bob soon answered the call to military ministry. From 1972 to 1977, he served with distinction as a reservist Army Chaplain. During these five years, he provided vital pastoral care and spiritual guidance to personnel, embodying the Ordinariate’s mission to be a "church on the move" alongside those who serve.

Following his military service, Fr Bob continued his dedicated ministry in South Australia before moving to the Diocese of Broken Bay in 1989. His commitment to his flock remained constant through various parish appointments—including Asquith, Mona Vale, and Chatswood—until his retirement in 2002.

We remember Fr Bob for his steadfast dedication, his service to the nation, and his lifelong commitment to the Gospel.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
