Becoming Catholic

The Catholic Church has a special way of initiating adults into the Catholic faith. It is called the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA).  It is a period of Christian formation offered to those seeking to become Catholic.

The RCIA takes place within a parish community, so you are able to share in the life of the Church expressed in a faith community. It offers a way to grow in knowledge of Christ and the Catholic faith in company with others on a similar journey.

Why become Catholic?

There are moments in life when we become aware that there is something deeper taking place beyond what we see. We come to this realisation that our hearts yearn for something more.

This desire that we all experience in or own unique way is written in the human heart by God Himself.

Thus, our journey towards becoming Catholic is first and foremost a desire towards God, who comes to us personally in the Person of Jesus Christ. He waits for us at the well, knocks at the door of our hearts, yearning to fulfil our desire for truth and happiness.

Taking the next step

These is no pressure or obligation for those enquiring about becoming Catholic. We welcome all enquiries.

Defence members and families who are interested in becoming Catholic may contact their local Catholic Chaplain.

Or you may like to find out further information by contacting us her at the Chancery.

RCIA - Defence serving members and community

RCIA for serving members needs to be looked at on a case-by-case basis.

  • Although iti is ideal for members to complete parish diocesan programs this is not always possible due to military commitments
  • Where this is the case, the chaplain can tailor a program to suit the member and their current level of religious knowledge
