Lent

Lent is a 40-day season that begins on Ash Wednesday and ends at sundown on Holy Thursday. During this season, Catholics are invited to delve deeper into the mystery of Jesus' suffering, death, and resurrection at Easter.

Lent provides Catholics with an opportunity to reflect on where they have failed to love God, their neighbour, and themselves, as well as to seek ways to repair what has been broken. Along with this reflection on their lives, Catholics commit to prayer, fasting, and almsgiving.

POPE LEO XIV's LENTEN MESSAGE 2026

Let us begin by disarming our language, avoiding harsh words and rash judgement,
refraining from slander and speaking ill of those who are not present and
cannot defend themselves.
Instead, let us strive to measure our words and cultivate kindness and respect
in our families, among our friends, at work, on social media, in political debates,
in the media and in Christian communities.
Let us ask for the that strength
comes from the type of fasting
that also extends to our use of language,

So that hurtful words may diminish
and give way to a greater space
for the voice of others.

Pope at Angelus: This Lent, make your life a unique masterpiece

During his Sunday Angelus address on this first Sunday of Lent, Pope Leo XIV says the Lenten season offers the faithful the opportunity to let the Lord cleanse them, cooperate better with God, and, in doing so, craft their lives as unique masterpieces.
