Pastoral care
Chaplains play an integral role in providing religious and pastoral support to various international military elements deployed as part of the ADF.
Catholic Chaplains at their various locations collaborate in mission with the local geographical bishop and clergy representing the Catholic Diocese of the Australian Military Services and their Military Service.
Our Chaplains seek to provide:
- Spiritual support to all Defence members as sought;
- Regular religious support, including Mass and Sacraments, to Catholic ADF members and families at military chapels, on operations and in deployments and beyond as requested;
- Pastoral care at location of posting, on deployment and whenever sought;
- Advice to commanders on pastoral, religious, ethical and cultural issues as part of the command team;
- Leadership, character, and ethics training with military units.
- Engagement with various support agencies in the provision of holistic welfare support to members when requested;
- Religious Leadership Engagement with faith group authorities within Australia and in deployed locations;
- Opportunities for Mass and prayer at base chapels, on exercise and on deployment;
- Engagement in ecumenical and multi-faith services as required.
