Pope Leo XIV is scheduled for surgery on Tuesday, October 13, at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital to remove a small, localised lung nodule discovered during routine checks. The Prefecture of the Papal Household has cancelled all papal audiences through Tuesday, October 20, to accommodate his expected one-week hospital recovery.

The surgery has prompted several schedule adjustments. Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle will replace the Pope to preside over Wednesday's Mass in St. Peter's Square, where the faithful will pray for the Pontiff's health. Additionally, publication of the Synod's final synthesis report has been delayed at the Pope's request, as he wishes to review the materials and hear participants' conclusions firsthand after his discharge.

Well-wishes have arrived from leaders across five continents. Joining the global support, the Military Ordinariate of Australia has extended its prayers, wishing the Holy Father a swift and complete recovery.
