Christians in Holy Land face further despair

The US and Israel had been at war for three weeks, and Iran was still attacking US and Israeli allies in the area.

As Iran and Hezbollah militants in Lebanon continue to attack in response, people in the Holy Land, especially Christians, are living in a terrible present and an uncertain future.

The Vatican Press Office said that on March 16, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas called Pope Leo XIV in the morning to talk about "the worrying developments in the conflict in the Middle East and the living conditions of the Palestinian people".

During the conversation, "the Holy Father reaffirmed the Holy See's commitment to achieving peace through political and diplomatic dialogue, as well as through full respect for international law."
