Vale Fr Brendan Dillon

Our former ADF Chaplain, Father Brendan Michael Dillon PE passed away, 6 June 2024 at Dame Nellie Melba Retirement Village, Wheelers Hill. He was aged 83 years.

‘O God, listen favourably to our prayers offered on behalf of your servant and priest, and grant that Brendan, who committed himself zealously to the service of your name, may rejoice forever in the company of your saints.

We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.’

Upon his ordination by Bishop Fox on 23 July 1966 at St Patrick’s Cathedral, East Melbourne, Father Brendan served at the Cathedral temporarily as Assistant Priest and was later appointed as Assistant Priest at Bulleen (1967), Cheltenham (1970) and again at St Patrick’s Cathedral East Melbourne (1972).

After serving as the Catholic Chaplain to the Military Vicariate from 1973, Father Brendan was appointed Administrator of Bacchus Marsh Parish (1980) and was then appointed Parish Priest at Epping (1982). Father Brendan’s final parish appointment was at Glen Waverley as Parish Priest from 2000 to 2017, whereupon he retired and was made Pastor Emeritus.

Father Brendan served the Church and its people in a very positive and pastorally enriching manner. He was a fine example to both his brother priests and wider community, particularly the Racing Industry of which he was its Chaplain for many years.

The People of God in this great Archdiocese is most grateful for over his 57 years of untiring service.

Together with his recently retired brother, Fr Kevin, the Dillon family has made a huge contribution to the life of the Church of Melbourne for which we are all most grateful.

May Fr Brendan rest in peace.

ADF Service – approximately 1973 to 1980 – thank you for your Service.
