World Day of Migrants and Refugees

Social cohesion is a central part of what makes Australia a good place.

 

 


 

Australian have been urges to reflect on the values of compassion, justice and hope as Catholic communities mark the World Day of Migrants and Refugees on Sunday 5th October 2025.

The Catholic Bishops in Australia have issued a statement, entitled 'Migrants, Missionaries of Hope' emphasizing the Church's social teaching, with its foundation in the Gospel, which calls for welcoming migrants and refugees with compassion and hospitality, recognizing their dignity and human rights, and extending to them the welcome and solidarity necessary to build a new life whilst promoting social cohesion and justice.

This year marks the 75th anniversary of the Australian Catholic Bishop' pastoral statement on immigration, these foundational documents over the years continues to shape the church's advocacy.

Across Australia, Catholic parishes, schools and organizations are hosting events, liturgies and community gatherings to make the World Day of Migrants and refugees.
