School of Armour's Legacy of Beersheba

Combat training has a long history at our school, and it is still expanding.

As part of their job in the Australian Defence Force, a chaplain will always have official obligations. As a chaplain for the School of Armour in Puckapunyal, Victoria, Owen Geddes, a catholic Army chaplain, recently had this responsibility when he presided over the event where we were asked to consider the generations that have passed since the training school's founding.

A moment was taken on 31 October to reflect deeply on the history of the School of Armour, the Royal Australian Armoured Corps, the generations who have committed themselves to the pursuit of excellence, and the legacy of those who served at the Battle of Beersheba.

It was also a great honour to welcome the O'Donnell family and honour LTGEN Laurence O'Donnell AC, a leader who personifies the RAAC's tenacity and spirit. With Commander Forces Command-Australian Army MAJGEN Ana Duncan AM, CSC assisting in the naming ceremony for the brand-new O'Donnell Centre, his legacy will live on in the School for many generations.

The Head of Corps Team, which included WO1 Sean McElhinney OAM, BRIG Andrew Moss AM, CSM, and MAJGEN Michael Krause AM, was also delighted to join the school.

The school continues to develop, embracing innovation and cutting-edge technologies while never forgetting the trailblazers who paved the way. Its legacy is rooted in mounted combat training.
