Before ascending to the papacy as Leo XIV, Robert Francis Prevost compiled a distinguished record of global and local service, including leading the Dicastery for Bishops. This documentary highlights how his experiences navigating the spiritual and administrative heart of the Catholic Church shaped his current pastoral vision for the universal Church.

 

The documentary was produced by journalists Felipe Herrera-Espaliat, Salvatore Cernuzio, and Tiziana Campisi, with editing by Jaime Vizcaíno Haro.

VATICAN CITY — The Editorial Directorate of the Dicastery for Communication has officially released a new documentary titled "Leo in Rome." The film offers an intimate look into the formative years that Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost spent in the Eternal City prior to his election as Pope Leo XIV.

Documenting a Papal Journey

The production serves as a historical and biographical retrospective, utilising a rich blend of media to trace the Pontiff's deep connection to Rome:

  • Exclusive Interviews: Featuring insights from close colleagues, church historians, and those who worked alongside him during his Vatican tenures.
  • Archival Footage: Showcasing rare video records of his ecclesiastical service, administrative roles, and pastoral engagements in the city.
  • Historical Images: Offering a visual timeline of his journey from an Augustinian friar and bishop to his elevated role in the Roman Curia.
