Blessing of the RAR Memorial

A grant application under Saluting their Service (DVA) was accepted. April 2025 saw the installation of Silent Sentries.

The new memorials were built as a result of many people working together. Greg Decker, secretary of the Royal Australian Regiment Association (RARA), initiated the Silent Sentries project.  Army LTGEN Simon Stuart AO DSC visited the region to open the two new Sentinels on November 15.

Chaplain Peter Devenish-Meares, a member of the Catholic Military Ordinariate of Australia, attended the formal opening of the two new Silent Sentinels at the National Memorial Walk as Chaplain of the official event. Presiding over the sentinels, Peter said:

"we are here for a vital purpose: to bless these silent sentries which commemorate those who gave everything. Their sacrifices remind us that service is costly and that courage often comes clothed in a uniform. The 'light' of their service will always shine as a beacon.  It shines as ADF members do their duty and veterans visit a mate, mow the memorial lawn or call someone to cheer them up. It shines when you care in public acts and when no one is watching. Thank you for all you do, seen and unseen, in the service of others."

The Golden Soldier figure and the Regiment's operational deployment from 1948 to 2021 are displayed in the Southern Sentry.

The Golden Soldier figure, Combat Operational Awards, Battle Honours, and Regimental Honours are displayed by the Northern Sentry.

On the northern and southern ends of the Contemplation Building's western forecourt are the Silent Sentries.

Lest we forget.
