The Bishop's Coat of Arms

Coat of Arms for Bishop DavisOn the left of the shield is the Coat of Arms of the Diocese.

On the right is the personal Coat of arms of the Bishop Davis - based on the traditional Davis family coat of arms.

Above the combined shield is the Bishop's hat with its three rows of tassels hanging down either side - the number of rows indicate his rank as does the colour - green.

Below is the Bishop's motto which is "DOMINE UT VIDEAM" - words from the the Gospel of St. Mark (10:46) - the story of Bartimeus. Translated as "O Lord, that I may see."

When the Bishop changes the right hand side and the motto are replaced by the new Bishop's Coat of Arms and motto.

Anyone who understands heraldry can see immediately that this identifies Bishop Davis of the Australian Defence Forces Diocese.
